Beblavy: Slovakia Top Thief of Money from EU Budget

Bratislava, September 12 (TASR) - Slovakia in 2013-17 became the EU's premier thief of money from the European budget under Smer-SD, extra-parliamentary Together party leader and Independent MP Miroslav Beblavy stated at a press conference on Wednesday, citing data from the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF).
"According to OLAF's figures, the Smer-SD governments are responsible not only for a giant customs fraud," said Beblavy. "In terms of income [of the EU budget], 51.2 percent of money was stolen, while it was one of seven euros (13.5 percent) in expenditure," said Beblavy, adding that the EU average was 4.6 percent and 2.2 percent, respectively.
At the same time, Beblavy called on Finance Minister Peter Kazimir (Smer-SD) to "accept responsibility" for the issue.
